Meat the Need is a donation-based, closed-loop program designed to strengthen the local food system from farm to community.
Through the Livestock Institute of Southern New England and its USDA-inspected facility, Meatworks, donor contributions starting at $5,000 are scaled to match each partner’s level of giving, directly funding the purchase and processing of locally raised livestock from New England farms.

This model ensures farmers receive fair market value, supports the skilled workforce and daily operations at Meatworks, and turns high-quality local meat into thousands of servings of protein for the community. The finished product is delivered to a school, institution, or food insecurity agency of the donor’s choice, creating a direct and meaningful connection between giving and impact.

With built-in yield tracking and transparent reporting, Meat the Need reduces waste, lowers food miles, and provides measurable outcomes that demonstrate real community benefit.
By linking producers, processors, and recipients in one coordinated system, the program sustains local agriculture, supports jobs, and strengthens food security across the region.
